Alice Clark
Listening to this reissue of her self-titled 1972 LP for Bob Shad’s Mainstream label, it’s immediately apparent that Alice Clark possessed a superb, gospel-reared voice and could probably have give Aretha Franklin or Gladys Knight a run for their money – if she’d had the chance and fate had been kinder. The opening cut is a gentle but soulful repurposing of Jimmy Webb’s ‘I Keep It Hid,’ originally recorded by country singer, Glen Campbell.

Pyramid Pieces 2 (Modern Jazz Australia 1969-1980)
The Roundtable return with a second offering of modernist jazz from Australia. Another vital document further examining the nation’s jazz scene during the late 1960s and 70s. A fertile period that witnessed the birth of an independent movement and the development of a distinct Australian jazz sound. While continuing to focus on the modal forms explored in Volume 1, this second edition shifts direction slightly, this time also surveying other post-bop modes representative of the scene including soul jazz, avant-garde ballet music and Eric Dolphy-inspired free jazz.

The Deconstructed Ego
In Pakistan the interest in local traditional music is slowly dying. As western music and sounds are increasingly favoured, fewer musicians reach for traditional Hindi instruments, like the Sarangi, Cajon or Tabla. This a reflection of modern times, and the need for instant interaction and fast data exchange. Learning and mastering traditional Indian music is incredibly difficult and requires a lifetime of dedication.

Marianna
Marek Pędziwiatr has been part of the scene for over a decade now. He has gained recognition thanks to projects such as EABS and Błoto & Jaubi. Still, he has never emphasized his name through the prism of these bands, betting instead on collective work. The time has come now for Marek to present his debut album entitled Marianna, featuring him alone as Latarnik performing in a piano solo formula.
